Zanzibar, July 2025 — As part of its ongoing Tourism Awareness-Raising Project, the Tanzania Mwangaza team is actively preparing for a series of career talks and a regional debate competition targeting secondary school students across the region.
The initiative, spearheaded in collaboration with the Herrnhuter Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management, aims to inspire youth engagement in the tourism and hospitality sector—a vital pillar of Tanzania’s economic development. The events are scheduled to take place in August and September 2025, bringing together students, educators, and tourism professionals under one platform.
According to the project coordinator, the activities are designed to spark student interest in tourism careers, challenge misconceptions, and highlight the diversity of opportunities available in areas such as tour guiding, hotel management, culinary arts, front office operations, and eco-tourism.
The career talks will feature expert speakers and alumni from vocational training centers, offering real-life testimonials and guidance on the academic and professional pathways into the tourism industry.
In parallel, the inter-school debate competition will engage students in critical discussions on topics such as “Sustainable Tourism in Zanzibar” and “Youth Participation in the Future of Tanzania’s Tourism.” These sessions will not only build awareness but also develop students’ communication, research, and leadership skills.
Preparations are currently in full swing, including the mobilization of schools, preparation of materials, and training of facilitators. The Tanzania Mwangaza team affirms its commitment to inclusive participation, ensuring students with disabilities and those from rural schools are equally involved.
This initiative forms part of a broader effort to position tourism as a viable and inspiring career path for the next generation, aligning with national development goals and education reforms that emphasize skills-based learning.
