Tanzania, May 13, 2025 A new hands-on solar energy training initiative, funded by HMH and implemented in partnership with the Moravian Church in Tanzania and TAREA, is equipping vocational students with practical skills in sustainable energy. Hosted at the Namtumbo,Mbeya and Songea Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) and overseen by Tanzania Mwangaza , the program embeds real-world internships at local companies into its curriculum.
Since its launch, participating students have transitioned from classroom study to on site placements with solar installation and maintenance firms across the region. These internships allow trainees to apply theoretical knowledge in professional settings, forging a direct pathway from vocational education to career readiness.
“The goal of this project is not only to teach technical skills but also to foster a culture of renewable energy use that benefits entire communities,” said Eng. Edger Teacher Mwabungulu, Country Project Manager for HMH and Executive Director of Tanzania Mwangaza.
“By empowering our students to become tomorrow’s solar technicians, we’re investing in both their futures and the well being of Tanzanian families.”
The program emphasizes sustainable energy solutions as a catalyst for local development, aiming to reduce reliance on non-renewable power sources while creating employment opportunities. Plans are already underway to expand the initiative to additional VTCs later next year, further strengthening Tanzania’s clean-energy workforce.
